Featured Fit Chick – Lisa

How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here?   I started at Fit Chick in February 2017 for my 2 weeks free and joined in March. I heard about Fit Chick from two people, Ann Noble, who I know from First Lutheran Church in Longmont, and Aimee Adams, who I know from the Mead High School concessions team. Both spoke very highly of the program and their enthusiasm made me want to try the 2 weeks free. I had noticed that, since I turned 50, my weight was increasing and my muscle tone was decreasing. I know that, if I want to continue to ski, paddleboard, kayak, etc. into my 70s and beyond, I need to work on my muscle tone, flexibility and balance.

What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE?  Last year, I did not feel comfortable skiing with my kids.  I felt that I could hurt myself if I fell.  I did not ski any black diamonds and my knees hurt by the afternoon.

This year, we went to Steamboat and I skied for two days and went down some black diamonds.  I could jump from mogul to mogul on the steep slopes with confidence.  My muscles were not sore in the afternoon.

 What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome? I feel better if I go and workout at Fit Chick.  I like the Boot Camp one day and Piyo the next day.  My biggest obstacle is getting there in the morning, especially this summer with the kids out of school.  There is a lot of things to get done at home.

What is your favorite part of FCE? I like the Boot Camp to make me work and the Piyo to help my flexibility and balance.  I like that Angie and Bobbie correct my technique (I am not the most coordinated person) and give me a modified option if I cannot do the original move.  I also like how the workouts are different every day.

What advice would you offer to newbies? Come and try the 2 weeks free.  There is no pressure.  You can think of it as “meeting for coffee with the ladies” for a half an hour.  We laugh.

Featured Fit Chick – Ana

How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here?  I’ve been a Fit Chick for 6 months and I came seeking to get toned and feel better about how I looked. My friend Raluca has been going to the boot camp classes and she had great results.

What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE?  I participated in a 10-week diet challenge and learned to eat better and incorporate more veggies in my meals. At the end of the challenge I was happy with how I felt and looked and got lots of compliments on the change. Now there’s no smoothie I’m making at home that doesn’t have spinach or kale in it!

What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome? Seeing the results keeps me motivated. Finding time to work out was a serious obstacle! When I kept hearing health professionals saying one should exercise at least 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes, I thought it would be impossible for me to find the time. I am involved in lots of community activities and have a daily commute into Denver. Now I go to Fit Chick Express at least 3 times a week!

What is your favorite part of FCE? The women community here is extraordinary! We all make fun of how hard the workouts are (and yet we still come for some reason), but the instructors are very encouraging and knowledgeable on how to modify for one’s needs.

What advice would you offer to newbies?  Working out at 6 AM is not that crazy: you get it done early in the day and it gives you the energy and stamina you need to survive a busy day.

In one sentence, how would you describe your experience at FCE? The FCE experience has been the answer to what I needed to push my physical abilities a step further.

Featured Fit Chick – Brenda Johnson

Brenda Johnson

How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here?  I have been at Fit Chick for 3 months. I was referred by Jodi Hall. She kept telling me how awesome it was and how great the people were so I had to check it out. What did I have to lose with the free two week trial?!?!

What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE?  My biggest accomplishment has been showing up for the 6am classes. Morning workouts were never my thing in the past because it was hard to get motivated that early but I don’t have that problem anymore because all of the other fun awesome ladies doing class with me.

What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome? Trying to better myself and staying in shape for my health. What obstacles have you had to overcome? My biggest obstacle was finding balance with getting my workouts in with 3 kids and a husband that is gone to work for a month at a time.

What is your favorite part of FCE? My favorite part by far is the women who go there but my second favorite part is the 30 min workouts because we are all busy and anyone can squeeze in 30 mins.

What advice would you offer to newbies?  Get to know people because it makes working out so much fun! Also try all the classes!

In one sentence, how would you describe your experience at FCE? My experience at Fit Chick has been awesome because it makes working out FUN!

Featured Fit Chick – Dee

Dee Thompson

How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here? How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here? —I joined in October 2016. I was looking for a place to do Kickboxing and essentially knew I would come here instead of another place because it was close to my home.

What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE? I am strengthening my upper body more everyday.

What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome? The camaraderie keeps me motivated. Making myself go to classes, even when I’m exhausted is a big obstacle, but I’ve learned that I will be energized and feel better afterwards.

What is your favorite part of FCE? The laughter that pushes us all through the end of classes! There are many fun and humorous women at FCE and I’m doing great things for my body and health!

What advice would you offer to newbies?  Keep going and ask for help if you need it!!!

Featured Fit Chick – AnnaMarie

How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here? I’m not even sure anymore how long I’ve been with FCE! I came to a Zumba class with friends from work back in 2011, I believe. Shakin’ it in front of a room full of people intimidated the hell out of me! I did Zumba for about a year before Dawna suggested I try the Boot Camp classes. I’ve also done Kickboxing with Stephanie since she started it up a few years ago and now I can’t imagine a Saturday morning without it!

What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE? CONFIDENCE!  I’ve accomplished so many amazing things since I started here: climbing Bierstadt, running a few 5k races, improved numbers on assorted lab tests,  having the confidence in my body to do a boudoir photo session, getting my running time down to a 10-minute mile… who knows what’s yet to come?!

What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome? My biggest obstacle has been my own body. I tore an ab muscle two years ago and had to take a long break from any activity. That, combined with stress , a job change, and getting married, has caused a big setback on my health goals and I gained 18 pounds back. That’s heartbreaking after having worked so hard to get 75 pounds off! I also have shoulder and wrist weakness so I feel like I’m always having to take it easy or modify. Luckily, the trainers at FCE are amazingly kind and supportive and make great modifications and workouts that still challenge me.

What is your favorite part of FCE? The way if makes me feel! I feel so energized after each workout (no matter how much I complain during it!)

What advice would you offer to newbies? Stick with it, give it a good chance.  Don’t give up even after setbacks. It takes time to see results but you’ll feel so great and THAT’s what’s important!

In one sentence, how would you describe your experience at FCE.  FCE is a great place for fast and fierce workouts and new friendships!

Nikki Lee

 How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here? My experience at FCE has empowered me to take a firm hold of my future and live my very best life!

What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE? My most major accomplishment since becoming an FCE member would have to be my overall strength. I love that I can finally see some muscle in my arms and that’s a reminder of all my hard work.

 What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome? My motivation comes from wanting to be healthy and to keep up with my kids. When I first started working out, I had horrible exercise-induced asthma. Each time I worked out, it was a struggle. However, every week I could see that I was building stamina and strength.

What is your favorite part of FCE? I love the quick, and intense boot camp classes. I feel that I get a great workout in a short amount of time. I also love the instructors and the members.

What advice would you offer to newbies? The advice that I would give to new members would be to fight through the pain. To be patient for results, because it doesn’t happen overnight!!
