As for myself, I have been having them pretty much since I turned 40. Ugh!! I am still working with my acupuncturist to figure it out and get me back to normal sleeping patterns. I have already come a long way in just 2 years!
When I first started my journey of not sleeping, anytime I used the oils, it had the opposite effect on me. The ones that were supposed to help me sleep actually made me more awake! Yes, I was that messed up!
But now, I live for my doTerra oils at night. It’s like taking a melatonin but without the side effects.
Some oils work differently for different people and our bodies are constantly changing, so an oil that worked at first, might be as effective and you will need to change it up or take a break from it. At least that is what I found out with my body.
So here are my main– go to oils– that help me sleep.
Serenity– I sometimes will use lavender or roman chamomile with it for extra added effect. I rub this on the bottoms of my feet, insides of my wrists and back of my neck. I also add some to my pillow sometimes.
Vetiver – If you know me, you know my brain does not shut off. This one allows my brain to rest so that I can rest. There are times I wake up in the middle of the night and start thinking of all the things I need to do, so Ill apply this to my wrists and bottoms of my feet and find myself falling asleep within minutes.
Lavender – We all know lavender is know for relaxing and calming so this one is perfect! This one is GREAT for kids who have troubles sleeping too! Just make sure to add a carrier oil to it before applying to their feet.
Whisper – This one I especially like around “that time of the month” and has been known to help with hormonal issues and my sleep tends to be worse around that time. I have even used it as a perfume to help calm me down at times. This one I like to apply behind my ears or on the back of my neck.
Marjoram- This is my latest find for sleep. It’s know for its calming effect and I have found it to be very effective for sore muscles. So there are some nights I can kill two birds with one stone! HA! Help my sore muscles AND help me sleep! This one I am NOT fond of the smell, but it’s worth it to help me sleep! I will usually mix it with one of the other oils to help calm down the smell.
So there you have it…my top oils that I use for helping me to sleep. I don’t usually go a night without using at least one of them. I have also mixed them together in a roller bottle so that when I need EXTRA help for sleep, they are all ready to go! There are others that you can use for sleep, but for myself, these have been the most effective.
