Bobbie Covert
How long have you been a member of Fit Chick Express and what brought you here? I met Angie pre-Fit Chick when she was doing personal training on her own. I became a Fit Chick before Fit Chick even had a “home”! I think this was around 2008? We used to do boot camp classes outside in the park, which was perfect for me after working a pretty stressful corporate job. Small wonder I end up teaching a lot of evening classes!
What has been your greatest accomplishment since becoming a member of FCE? Changing my way of life from someone working a corporate job in the pharma industry (which frankly wasn’t the best fit for me) to someone making their own way doing things more in line with my beliefs about health (= food not drugs!). Finishing my MNT (Master Nutrition Therapy) certification was a long, fascinating, and challenging process! After quitting the stressful job in 2010, I became a trainer for FCE, and got schooled in all things food related – including cooking – since I’m also a Natural Foods Chef.
What keeps you motivated? What obstacles have you had to overcome?
Motivation is a funny thing… I joke that if I could find the “key” to motivation, I’d be beyond rich! Like most folks, my motivation ebbs and flows… Personally I find the healthy eating part to be much easier than staying motivated to work out and run, but also like most folks, after the workout is over I usually feel SO GOOD. So I try to tap into that feeling when I feel less-than-motivated. Also, I have aging parents, and I know their health now would be better if they had eaten better and exercised. For me, that is a potent reminder.
What is your favorite part of FCE? Fun women, lots of laughs and good times! It is hard to do a plank while someone is making you laugh in class but I figure it can only make my abs stronger! The camaraderie in workouts makes them easier to get through, and also sometimes helps me work just a little harder, too. As a trainer here, I also want to single out Angie and my fellow trainers – who have all been supportive, flexible, & helpful when I’ve needed to be away from FCE or had changing school schedules!
What advice would you offer to newbies?
-Don’t be afraid to be a little sore, and definitely reframe the soreness as something fantastic! It’s your body giving you feedback, saying “THANK YOU for moving me, I’m aware you’re making me stronger, and that is good for me and my future!”
-Give yourself permission to use the “disabled” stall in the bathroom (assuming no one else really needs it!) when your glutes are super sore!
-Enjoy yourself, laugh with us, and always ask for help if something doesn’t feel right!
In one sentence how would you describe your experience at FCE. Fit Chick has been a huge part in big life changes for me in the past 7 years, not just from a workout point of view, & I can’t really imagine life differently!
